Derrick White Roasts Former Celtics Teammate At Olympics

The trio of Celtics stars took another step in helping Team USA win an Olympic gold medal at the Paris Olympics, and one of their former teammates was there to watch it.

Team USA beat Brazil, 122-87, at Bercy Arena on Tuesday. Steve Kerr played everyone on the 12-man roster, including Jayson Tatum, Derrick White and Jrue Holiday, who was the lone Boston player to earn a start.

White recorded five points, four rebounds and four assists in 17 minutes against Brazil and was in the media zone after the game. The 30-year-old shook his head and smiled when he saw former Celtics and current Charlotte Hornets forward Grant Williams in the mix with the media. Williams was in Paris working as a correspondent for Olympics.com and didn't miss his chance with his former teammate.

"I heard a rumor that you were considering naming your son after a former teammate, is that true?" Williams asked White, per The Boston Globe's Adam Himmelsbach. "Who was that teammate? And did he end up being the godfather of your children?"

White has a 2-year-old son named Hendrix and a 1-year-old son named Daxton. Neither of those names closely sound like Williams' so White didn't waste an opportunity to publicly roast him.

"You know, in this game of basketball you learn a lot of things, and every locker room is a little different," White told Williams. "But Grant Williams was never in consideration for my child's name. My kid will give you a high-five, though, so you've got that going for you. Maybe just be around more. You're an absentee, self-proclaimed godfather."

Williams remained close with multiple Celtics players after he was traded to the Dallas Mavericks last offseason, and they never missed a chance to treat him like the little brother he was in Boston. It's kept him in fans' minds, and they got another treat at the Olympics.
