Red Sox Celebrate Alex Cora’s Milestone With Clubhouse Toast

The Red Sox improved their position for a playoff spot after Monday, as they picked up a huge win over the Kansas City Royals to kickstart their three-game set at Kauffman Stadium.

It wasn't any other win for Boston, however.

Alex Cora secured his 500th career victory with the decision, making him just the fourth manager in franchise history to reach that mark -- joining Joe Cronin (1,071), Terry Francona (744) and Pinky Higgins (560).

Cora spoke to his team following the win, sharing credit for the milestone.

"I knew this one was coming. I knew it," Cora said, per team-provided video. "It's been fun the whole year, and obviously me and my family made a big commitment a few weeks ago, and the reason is them, first, but what you guys bring on a daily basis to my life is amazing. I love it."

Cora made special mention of Rafael Devers, who is the longest-tenured member of the club and the only one to play under Cora for his entire tenure.

The Red Sox will hope to keep adding wins to Cora's total, as they seek an American League wild card spot.
