MLB Rumors: Recently DFA’d Red Sox Pitcher Signs With Hometown Team

A former Boston Red Sox relief pitcher reportedly found a new home this week.

The Texas Rangers signed Chase Anderson to a minor-league deal, according to the New York Post's Jon Heyman and MassLive's Chris Cotillo.

Anderson signed with the Red Sox last offseason and pitched in 27 games this season, including one spot start. The right-hander recorded a 4.85 ERA in 52 innings, and he has 35 strikeouts and 19 walks this season.

The veteran pitcher and Reese McGuire were designated for assignment last Sunday after Boston made multiple moves before the MLB trade deadline to fill their respective spots on the active roster.

Texas is coming off an extra-innings walk-off win over the Houston Astros at Globe Life Field. Monday's win put it five games behind the American League West and seven games behind the Red Sox in the AL wild card.

The Rangers and Red Sox play one more series this season when Texas heads to Fenway Park next week for a three-game set. Anderson will report to Triple-A Round Rock before he gets a chance to play for his hometown team.
