Report: Tottenham are attempting to ‘make progress’ in pursuit of star striker

Tottenham Hotspur desperately need a new striker, and the club is now keen to push ahead with a move for one target this summer.

Bournemouth

Dominic Solanke is the target

In recent days, Dominic Solanke has emerged as the top target for Spurs in that area, and it seems the Lilywhites are ready to make a significant move to sign the Bournemouth man.

That’s according to a report from The Telegraph which claims Spurs want to “make progress” in the negotiations for Solanke as he is high on their list of potential new forwards.

While talks have been held, the price for Solanke remains an issue and Spurs “have work to do” to find a solution. It is said they may try and offer more favourable payment terms for Bournemouth, rather than meeting the player’s £65m release clause.

The report adds that Solanke is seen as a “good fit” for Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou‘s style of play.

Options for the Dominic Solanke deal

There has been plenty of talk about the potential Solanke deal and how it could be structured.

The Mirror have claimed Spurs might be ready to offer one or two fringe players as a part-exchange to bring the overall fee down.

Meanwhile, TEAMtalk state Tottenham are confident they could get Solanke for £60m rather than paying the £5m extra to trigger his release clause.

Fabrizio Romano first broke the news of Tottenham’s heightened interest in the 26-year-old, but he did specify at the time that it would be a ‘difficult’ deal to conclude.

It sounds like this has legs to me, and all signs point to us making the transfer happen.

It would be a bit underwhelming if I’m honest, but I would much rather us sign Solanke than not sign a new striker at all. And, to be fair, he should thrive in our highly creative system.
