Report: Spurs and Arsenal could battle for 24-year-old after Solanke roadblock

According to CaughtOffside, Tottenham Hotspur could turn their attention to Lille striker Jonathan David as Bournemouth continue to play hardball on Dominic Solanke.

Tottenham have competition for Solanke

The report explains that it is not just Spurs who are keen on signing Solanke but also two of their Premier League rivals.

Liverpool are named as one of the other Solanke admirers and they were ironically the club who sold the striker to Bournemouth in the first place back in 2019.

Arsenal are also allegedly ready to turn their attention to the Englishman after being unable to agree on a deal with Sporting Lisbon for Viktor Gyokeres.

Bournemouth make their stance clear

The outlet claims that Bournemouth have no intention of making negotiations easy and have made it clear that Solanke’s £65m release clause would have to be met.

In fact, it is revealed that the South Coast club’s directors told the 26-year-old’s agent that they are not willing to sell him in the current transfer window, even though the player himself is open to leaving the club.

The publication adds that if talks over a deal for Solanke prove unsuccessful, both Spurs and Arsenal could turn their attention to David, who is expected to depart Lille this summer.

Tottenham might have to consider the fact that they might not be able to spend big on Pedro Neto (or some other top winger) if they pay £65m for Solanke.

I do wonder if we will see Spurs now turning their attention back to Ivan Toney, with Brentford’s asking price likely to go down as we enter the latter stages of the transfer window.
