Red Sox Teammates Support Wilyer Abreu In Emotional Standout Game

Wilyer Abreu put together one his best games with the Red Sox just one day after his grandmother died, Alex Cora told reporters after Sunday's 7-2 win for Boston.

The Red Sox outfielder smashed two home runs and drove in four runs in the series finale. Abreu was emotional in the visitors' dugout while teammates showed their support.

After the series win over the Rangers, his Red Sox teammates reiterated their support in a close-knit clubhouse.

"We were absolutely fired up," Jarren Duran told Tom Caron, as seen on NESN's postgame coverage. "We're all here for him and we got his back. We all love him and we're gonna support him as much as we can. But to see him do that, it's an awesome thing. We're so proud of him."

"I think in these situations, just focusing on the game and doing what he was able to do is incredible," Nick Pivetta told reporters, as seen on NESN's postgame coverage. "Hats off to him. ... He has a room full of family here, as well, and we're always going to be there for him.

"It was a special moment in baseball."

Abreu capped off a strong weekend at the plate with three homers to boost the Red Sox to their second-straight series victory over talented American League West clubs.
