Postecoglou reveals when Van de Ven, Romero and Bentancur will be back

Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Rodrigo Bentancur will all be back over the coming days as Tottenham ramp up their preparation for the new season.

Radu Dragusin returns to Tottenham

Radu Dragusin was the last player to link up with the squad earlier this week, with the Romanian playing his first minutes of pre-season against the K-League All Stars on Wednesday.

The 22-year-old’s return was quite welcome for Postecoglou, who has had to use makeshift centre-backs in the games so far this summer.

That will soon change as Van de Ven, who featured in the Euros for the Netherlands this summer, along with the trio who featured in Copa America, Romero, Lo Celso and Bentancur, soon set to link up with the squad.

With the new season now just two and a half weeks ago, there might be some concerns over whether these players have sufficient time to work their way up to full fitness.

However, Postecoglou dismissed those concerns, pointing out that they have only had three weeks off and would be back up to speed within a couple of training sessions.

When asked if it would be a challenge to get those players fit and firing, the Tottenham head coach told Football.London: “I don’t think it’ll be too challenging because, you know, they’ve only both of them sort of had three weeks off and you know, both Micky and Cuti and Rodrigo will be back all this week.

“They’ve had good preparations coming into it and we know they’ll be looking after themselves and we’ve still got two weeks before the season starts.

“So that’s still a fair chunk of time for us to get them ready for the start of the season and beyond, because it’s not just about the first game, it’s about the games after that.

“We’ve seen how the guys who maybe have come in a bit later, like Radu came in this week within a few sessions they’re back up to speed and I expect the other guys to be the same.”

One would expect all three players to train with the squad at Hotspur Way next week and feature in the friendly against Bayern Munich at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on August 10.

Hopefully, those players will also be joined by some new faces as time is running out for Spurs to make some big moves in the transfer market.
