New season, same issues for Man Utd: Erik ten Hag suffers big setback ahead of 2024/25 campaign - report

0 1

Manchester United have been dealt a significant setback with the recent injury that can force them to alter their transfer plans.

Man United signed Leny Yoro from LOSC Lille in a hefty £52 million deal last month.

Erik ten Hag named him in the starting lineup in the club’s first pre-season tour game to the US.

Yoro was unfortunately forced off injured in the first half of their 2-1 defeat to Arsenal in Los Angeles on Saturday.

The 18-year-old was spotted on crutches and wearing a protective boot which feared the United supporters.

The Daily Mail report that Yoro has suffered a broken metatarsal and could be sidelined for up to two months.

This would be a considerable blow to Ten Hag’s defensive plans ahead of the crucial 2024/25 season.

United should move swiftly for Matthijs de Ligt now

Yoro’s injury leaves United in a precarious position.

The Red Devils will kick off their new campaign by locking horns with Manchester City in the Community Shield final on August 10.

They are scheduled to face Fulham six days later in their opening fixture of the new Premier League season.

With the transfer window still open, the club might accelerate their pursuit of another central defender.

Matthijs de Ligt is a top target for United. Ten Hag has also confirmed the club’s interest in signing the Dutch international.

His leadership and quality could provide a solid foundation at the back.

United will add depth and competition to their defensive line. Bringing De Ligt alongside Yoro, Martinez and Maguire promises a formidable mix of youth and experience.

Meanwhile, Jonny Evans remains a savvy emergency option.

Victor Lindelof is in the final year of his contract at United and could be sold this summer.

Ten Hag would be massively disappointed with Yoro’s injury.

He would have to rely on the partnership of Maguire and Martinez for the opening few games of the season.

Fans will hope that Maguire can carry over the strong form he displayed at the end of last season, while Martinez’s fitness will be crucial to maintaining a stable backline.
