Weekend preview: Friday night FA Cup clash kicks off three day feast

Royal Wootton Bassett Town are set for a three day feast of football this weekend with the club's senior teams in action on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Friday night is a big occasion as the Men's First Team tackle Hellenic League Premier Division rivals Mangotsfield United in the Emirates FA Cup extra preliminary round (Sustain Stadium, 7.45pm kick off). A repeat of last season's extra preliminary round clash, this time Sam Collier's side have home advantage and will be looking to avenge the 2-0 defeat they suffered last season. Of six competitive games between the teams in the past two seasons, that is the only one Bassett have lost within regulation time - though Mangotsfield do also have a cup triumph on penalties to their name. It should be a fascinating tie at the Sustain Stadium - with the added potential for one of the teams to score the first goal in this year's edition of the greatest domestic knockout cup competition of them all. A home date against Didcot Town awaits the winners. Admission is £8 for adults and £5 for concessions (including RWBTFC youth members). Saturday then sees the Development team kick off their Wiltshire League Premier Division campaign away at Pewsey Vale (3pm kick off). Impressive as they finished sixth last season, Mark Simpkins' side will have to be at their best if they are to get off the mark on opening day against a Pewsey team who have cracked the top three for three consecutive years. Sunday then sees the Women's First Team continue their preseason preparations with a home friendly against AEK Boco - a side who won and were promoted from Bassett's new home, the South West Regional Women's Football League Division One North, last season. That fixture takes place on the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground AGP, 2.30pm kick off.
