Red Sox’s Tyler O’Neill Named American League Player Of Week

Boston Red Sox outfielder Tyler O’Neill was named the American League Player of the Week, MLB announced on Monday.

O’Neill had a power surge last week, including four home runs and eight RBIs. He hit .429 with a 1.43 slugging percentage and a .435 OBP. He went 9 for 21 from the dish, with three doubles, a walk, five runs scored, and a 1.578 OPS over five games.

O’Neill has been locked in since the All-Star break, notching three multi-home run games in six contests, becoming the first player in franchise history to achieve that, according to Red Sox senior manager of media relations and baseball information J.P. Long. He leads the MLB with five multi-homer games this season.

The last Red Sox hitters to record at least five multi-home run games in a season were Xander Bogaerts and J.D. Martinez in 2019.

The 29-year-old slugger has 22 home runs and 43 RBIs on the season while slashing .270/.356/.910. In 1,749 career at-bats, O’Neill has 440 hits, 100 home runs and 260 RBIs with the Red Sox and St. Louis Cardinals.
