Man Utd now want to sign €60m Euro 2024 star ahead of Barcelona, huge interest - report

Manchester United are in contention to sign one of Spain’s best players at Euro 2024.

The Red Devils have already recruited Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna to bolster their attack this summer, but they are eyeing another versatile forward in the coming weeks.

According to Sport (page 4), the club are ‘positioned’ to land the signature of Dani Olmo, who has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona over the past month or so.

RB Leipzig currently want €60 million (£51m) on the table for the versatile attacker and they have promised to facilitate his exit so long as the figure is matched with incentives.

Barcelona are yet to make an acceptable bid for their former graduate. It is claimed that Olmo is also attracting great interest from United, who could pounce on the situation.

Olmo would be a risky signing with his injury record

The Spaniard had a brilliant European Championship in Germany. He started as a regular substitute but became a key starter following the injury setback for Barcelona’s Pedri.

Olmo ended the successful campaign with three goals and two assists from six appearances. He was brilliant in the final third, averaging almost two key passes per outing.

Despite this, United should avoid an approach for the 26-year-old. Olmo managed 13 goal contributions for Leipzig last term, but he played only 25 games in all competitions.

The forward missed 29 games for club and country with injuries. It was the same case in the previous two seasons where he was sidelined for 20 and 19 matches respectively.

The Red Devils had a bad experience with Mason Mount’s injuries last term. The Englishman struggled to make an impression but manager Erik ten Hag has backed him to come good.

In our view, Olmo would be a risky purchase with his injury record. With a huge outlay required to sign him, it would not prove a good piece of business for the Red Devils.
