Journalist suggests Spurs want to pay less than £40m to sign Premier League target

Journalist Dean Jones reports that Tottenham ideally want to pay under £40m to sign a top Premier League target this summer (Ranks FC Podcast).

GiveMeSport claim Spurs are expected to submit a ‘lowball’ bid for Ivan Toney at some point this summer, with Brentford having already dropped his price to just £50m

West Ham and Tottenham are named as the two most likely clubs to make a move for the Brentford number nine over the coming weeks, but Spurs are yet to make an official approach.

TalkSPORT report that, out of the two clubs, Ivan Toney is hoping the Lilywhites submit an offer for him, which at least hands Spurs a boost in the race for his signature.

Even though Brentford have already dropped their Toney price tag once this summer, Dean Jones suggests the Lilywhites do not want to pay more than £40m for the England international.

He adds that it still looks possible that Richarlison may leave N17 soon, which opens the door to a new striker being signed for Ange Postecoglou.

Jones said: “It is still looking viable that Richarlison leaves Tottenham. There has been talk about Santi Gimenez, Jonathan David, they are on the list, but Ivan Toney is there too. If they can get him, in their eyes, under £40m, I don’t think that’s a bad idea for Tottenham at all.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

Ivan Toney for under £40m would be a real coup for Tottenham this summer, similar to how they signed James Maddison for a bargain last year.

I suspect that is exactly what Spurs are doing too, waiting and waiting for Brentford to drop their price tag even further as they get more desperate to sell.
