Journalist predicts Spurs could bid £40m plus add-ons for winger this summer

With plenty of areas needing reinforcements at Tottenham this summer, the club are going to have to be pretty savvy about their spending. This could lead to a smart offer being made for one Premier League winger, according to Ben Jacobs.

Neto is the target, Maddison is the blueprint

Discussing Tottenham‘s desire to bring in a new winger this summer, Jacobs was speaking to Forest Fan TV and suggested the Lilywhites might follow a similar transfer bid strategy they used to sign James Maddison last summer when it comes to Pedro Neto.

He said: “From Tottenham’s point of view they want to add some sort of wide attacker, winger or playmaker. Ange Postecoglou likes players who are versatile.

“At the moment, they’re focused on the likes of Eberechi Eze and Pedro Neto at Wolves. Eze is difficult because of his complicated release clause.

“With Pedro Neto, it’s very possible that they put an offer down roughly similar to what they paid for James Maddison of £40-45m, but then with £5/10/15m in add-ons contingent on appearances. That way if he stays fit you’re happy to pay the higher price, but if he doesn’t stay fit you get him for less.”

Spurs have competition for Neto

Signing Neto won’t be easy. Aside from negotiating a transfer fee, the Lilywhites will also have Newcastle United to compete with when it comes to securing the Portuguese winger’s signature (Rousing the Kop).

This isn’t the first time Jacobs has mentioned Neto in conjunction with Spurs, either, as he told GiveMeSport recently that the Lilywhites may be ready to abandon their pursuit of Eze in favour of the Wolves man.

I think we would be foolish not to include some clauses and add-ons like that for Neto, given his injury record. If we can get him and he stays fit, though, we will have a seriously exciting and dangerous creative player on our hands.
