‘Very insignificant’ – Finance expert casts doubt on Tottenham investment rumours

Talk of Tottenham Hotspur getting a new investor has increased of late after Amanda Stavely left her position at Newcastle United. But, Spurs fans shouldn’t get their hopes up, as the situation just doesn’t quite fit for Stavely.

Spurs would want too much from an investor

That’s according to finance expert Stefan Borson, who told Football Insider that the price on Tottenham would be too high relative to the smaller role Stavely would take on with the club.

He said: “It sounds like nonsense to me. It seems unlikely that she would go from a position of very significant influence to a very serious minority at Tottenham.

“Everybody in football knows Tottenham is available for investment or a sale at the right price. But they have very significant expectations on value, probably something like eight to nine times what Staveley and PIF paid for Newcastle.

“I think it’s pretty unlikely that she’s come out of Newcastle at whatever valuation she has, where she was clearly very influential and is just going to accept a very insignificant role at Spurs.”

Will Stavely invest in Spurs?

The rumours all began thanks to a report from Bloomberg which claimed Stavely is looking for a new football club to invest in, after leaving her position on the Newcastle board.

That report cites Tottenham as a potential opportunity for Stavely, who has £500m to invest in a club. It is thought she has even held talks with Spurs advisers Rothschild & Co with the purchase of a minority stake in the club the topic of discussion.

I don’t think Stavely would necessarily want a role that was as hands-on and significant as the job she did at Newcastle anyway right now.

Perhaps she is open to investing in a really well-run football club that just needs a little bit of a financial boost, rather than the complete overhaul she and the PIF carried out at Newcastle.
