Red Sox Wrap: Nick Pivetta Struggles As Rockies Take Series Over Boston

The Boston Red Sox closed out a three-game series with the Colorado Rockies with a 20-7 loss on Wednesday afternoon at Coors Field.

With the loss, Boston falls to 54-47 while Colorado improves to 38-65.

Check out the full box score here.

ONE BIG TAKEAWAY
It’s time for the Red Sox to come back east.

Boston closed out a tough 1-5 road trip with an offensive onslaught at the hands of the Rockies. Nick Pivetta turned in a fantastic performance against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday. Wednesday afternoon told a different tale.

Pivetta labored with over 30 pitches in the first inning as the Rockies tallied three early runs. From there, Colorado’s offense kept the pedal down and posted four more innings with multiple runs.

310 to Left

On either side of a benches-clearing dispute between the clubs, the shorthanded Boston pitching staff could not keep up as Colorado continued to launch balls into the thin air on Denver.

The Rockies finished with 21 hits and 20 runs in the series finale, capping an unfortunate stretch for a Red Sox team that’s lost the momentum they entered the All-Star break with.

STARS OF THE GAME
— Jarren Duran tallied his 13th home run of the season as part of a three-hit day with a trio of RBIs. He finished a single shy of the cycle.

— Rafael Devers tallied three hits for the Red Sox just a day after his injury scare in Colorado.

— Colorado’s Brenton Doyle drove in five runs and slugged a grand slam.

UP NEXT
The Red Sox return to Fenway Park on Friday to host the New York Yankees for a three-game series. First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m. ET. You can catch the game, plus 90 minutes of pregame coverage, on NESN.
