Report: Another loan deal for Bryan Gil could be set to happen this summer

Tottenham Hotspur boarded their flight to Japan on Monday and left behind two senior players to focus on securing transfers away from the club.

While Ange Postecoglou decided to select a mix of youth and experience for the pre-season fixtures in Japan and South Korea, he did show that while Djed Spence could be potentially given the opportunity to force his way into the Australian’s plans, there is no such route for Bryan Gil and Sergio Reguilon.

Gil and Reguilon will remain at Hotspur Way to look to depart the club during the current transfer window.

Fabrizio Romano revealed on X on Monday evening that La Liga outfit Girona have held initial discussions with Tottenham over a move for Gil.

Spanish news outlet Vamos Mi Sevilla FC have now revealed that Gil is also attracting interest from Sevilla, who could be set to make an approach for their former player.

Sevilla linked with Gil reunion – could another loan beckon?

Gil joined Tottenham from Sevilla back in the summer of 2021 for a £21.6m fee which also saw Erik Lamela head in the other direction.

It is said that Sevilla could now look to bring Gil back to the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium on a loan deal with an option to buy, and an obligation to make the deal permanent could be triggered if certain set conditions are met.

Sevilla, however, are not prepared to spend big to bring the winger back to the club on a permanent basis with a fee of no more than €6m (£5m) mentioned.

The 23-year-old is under contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium until June 2026 and the abovementioned fee would represent a significant loss for the North Londoners on their initial investment (transfermarkt).

While the Gil transfer is not on the same scale as the Tanguy Ndombele disaster, it is still one of the biggest transfer errors the club have made in recent years.

Gil was never going to be cut out to handle the physicality of the Premier League, nor did the club look to get him up to speed to at least attempt adapt to the rigours of the English game by loaning him to a club in the same division.

Instead, he is far more suited to the style of play in La Liga, who is no surprise why both Girona and Sevilla have been credited with interest.

Another loan move without any guaranteed obligation would be a disaster, and one which Spurs need to move off their books by the end of August.
