Queen’s Park v Elgin City: 23 July 24 – Match preview

The Queen’s Park players will be told to be positive when they take on Elgin City on Tuesday night in their Premier Sports Cup Group C match at The city Stadium.

An opening day 5-0 win over Peterhead was followed by defeat last Tuesday at Easter Road against Hibernian with Davidson saying: “We have to move on from the Hibs game and be positive for the remainder of the Group. We did not play well last mid-week however we won well at Peterhead a few days before.

“We now have two games at home to play, so it is all about how we react to what was a hard 90 minutes. If someone had said before the season started that if you win your two home games you could qualify, we would have taken it.”

As for facing the Borough Briggs side Callum added: “We have to ensure that the game is played at the tempo we want it played at. The biggest disappointment against Hibs was that we did not play like we can.

“I have said a few times that we need to be better without the ball but against Elgin we need to be better with the ball, especially when we attack.

“I watched Elgin’s game at Peterhead on Saturday and there were loads of chances at both ends. They carry a few threats, so we need to be wary.”

Callum finished by saying: “We had a closed-door match against Rangers on Saturday and that allowed me to get 90 minutes into some players who needed it but we still have a few injuries, and we need to adapt our team accordingly.

“I would like us to play with a back four however we have not been in a position to do that competitively yet, however if we get a couple of players back and a new signing, that is almost over the line, completed we will have better options.”
