ACADEMY: AIDAN IN ACTION AT CONCACAF CHAMPIONSHIPS

0 2

MU20 academy player Aidan Russell Vargas made his debut for the Dominican Republic in their CONCACAF U20 Championship opener against El Salvador on Saturday evening.

The 18-year-old from Lusk qualifies for the country through his mother Elba and is part of the 21-man squad that is currently in action at the tournament in Mexico.

Aidan made a bright start to Saturday’s game, testing the El Salvador goalkeeper with an early shot before he was withdrawn at the interval.

The only goal came in the 62nd minute when Christopher Argueta secured El Salvador a 1-0 win in the teeming rain at the Sergio Leon Chavez Stadium in the city of Irapuato.

Eight teams from the three groups of four will advance to the quarter-finals with the semi-finalists also securing a place at the World Youth Cup in Chile next year.
