'World-class' star is waiting for Man Utd to sign him, clause expires today - report

0 2

Manchester United have been active during the early part of the summer transfer window and they have already made a couple of signings.

The club secured the signature of Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna last weekend before completing a deal for Leny Yoro from Lille few days later.

They have also agreed personal terms with Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte and the midfielder is pushing for a move to Old Trafford.

Amidst this, Gazzetta dello Sport (page 15) reveal that a certain and definitive answer is expected from United over the future of Sofyan Amrabat.

The Morocco international spent last season on loan with the Red Devils and the club have the option of re-signing him with a £17 million buy clause.

Today is the final date when United can trigger the option. Amrabat wants to stay in the Premier League and he is waiting for the Red Devils’ response.

Man Utd unlikely to trigger buy clause for Amrabat

The 27-year-old had a mixed loan spell with the Red Devils last term. The club spent a hefty £8.5m to sign him, but his performances were not up to the expectations.

Amrabat struggled to adapt to the higher intensity of the Premier League and he was dropped to the bench after the turn of the year as manager Erik ten Hag preferred Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo.

His fortunes changed in the final month with Casemiro moving into central defence due to an injury crisis. Amrabat starred in the last four games of the campaign including the FA Cup final victory.

Despite his late impression, the club are not entirely convinced to re-sign him. They are currently focused on pursuing the signature of Ugarte from the French champions, likely on a season-long loan.

Amrabat, who has been described as a ‘world-class‘ player by manager Walid Regragui, could be an option for United later on in the transfer window if Casemiro or Scott McTominay leave.
