Report provides update on four strikers linked with Tottenham this summer

Tottenham Hotspur are still hunting for a new striker this summer, and the latest update reveals a cut-price deal could be made for one target, while two Premier League forwards may now be off the shortlist.

Spurs don’t want Ivan Toney or Dominic Solanke

It’s now almost one year since Harry Kane left Tottenham, and the club still have not signed a proper replacement for their star forward.

However, it seems that will change at some point this summer. Now, a report from GiveMeSport has shed some light on a handful of the targets the club has lined up.

Lille’s Jonathan David appears to be the most feasible and most desired proposition now. He is into the final 12 months of his current contract and could be available for as little as £25m this summer.

Spurs have a “long-standing interest” in the Canada international, but will face competition from Newcastle United, Chelsea, and West Ham.

Meanwhile, the Lilywhites are also “tracking” Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez, but the club is seemingly distancing itself from reports that a bid for Ivan Toney has been submitted, or that they are interested in Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke.

Will Toney join Man United?

Tottenham’s stance on Toney may well be influenced by reports suggesting the Brentford striker has made it clear he would rather join Manchester United (Football Insider).

The interest in David is nothing new, of course. According to MSN, Ange Postecoglou is ‘obsessed’ with the forward and has been for some time.

Spurs Web Opinion

If it comes down to value for money, you can’t really argue with £25m for Jonathan David. He’s a proven goalscorer — albeit in Ligue 1 — and he’s exactly the kind of target man we need.

I like Gimenez, too, and I would have been happy with Toney but he clearly doesn’t want to come to Spurs.
