Goalkeeper Jordan Smith became Hibernian’s fourth new signing of the 2024 summer transfer window, joining the Hibees on a permanent deal until 2026.

The English shot-stopper’s arrival comes following the additions of centre-backs Warren O’Hora and Marvin Ekpiteta, as well as fellow ‘keeper Josef Bursik.

Smith’s move to the capital will provide competition for the number 1 spot in David Gray’s side, and the 29-year-old will bring experience to the goalkeeping department, which already includes Max Boruc and Bursik.

That experience has been built over a decade-long senior career, having progressed through the ranks at his boyhood club, Nottingham Forest.

Derbyshire-born Smith joined the Forest Academy at just seven years-old. Nurtured through the age groups with the two-time European Cup winners, his first taste of men’s football came in 2014 when he was loaned out to non-league outfit Ilkeston, where he made 60 appearances over the campaign.

More senior minutes came the following season during another loan spell with a local club, this time representing Nuneaton Town as first-choice goalkeeper.

Smith’s professional debut came for Forest in February 2017 and he completed that season in goal for the City Ground side, making 15 appearances.

The following 2017/18 campaign, Smith was Forest’s most-used goalkeeper. He made 32 appearances across all competitions, including 29 games in the EFL Championship.

Loans in the EFL came for Smith with Barnsley, Mansfield Town and Huddersfield Town before signing a permanent deal with Stockport County - who gained promotion in the 2023/24 campaign.

All in all, Smith spent 22 years at Nottingham Forest from the Academy to the First Team, making over 50 appearances for the senior side.

Last season, he featured for Stockport in the English FA Cup and League Cup.

He now joins Hibernian FC providing strong competition for that number 1 jersey ahead of the 2024/25 William Hill Premiership season.
