‘Gone cold’ – Fabrizio Romano provides update on Spurs’ interest in transfer target

Tottenham Hotspur look set to have their sights set elsewhere in the transfer market this summer with one of their most-linked targets the subject of intense interest from other clubs.

Spurs have gone quiet in race for teenager

Italian transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Tottenham have now ‘gone cold’ in their pursuit of Rennes winger Desire Doue.

The Sun reported earlier this week that Tottenham and Chelsea were both in the race to sign the talented 19-year-old.

Bayern Munich have already had a £30million bid immediately turned down by Rennes and are instead holding out for an eye-watering £52million.

French giants Paris Saint-Germain are also pushing to sign the versatile winger with Doue now in talks with both clubs over a potential switch this summer.

Doue established himself in the Rennes first team as a left winger last season, scoring four goals and providing five assists in 31 appearances in Ligue 1 (transfermarkt).

Tottenham could be set to miss out on Desire Doure

Romano said on The Debrief podcast on The Daily Briefing: “From what I heard, Tottenham have gone cold at the moment, so the situation is more focused on Bayern and Paris Saint-Germain.

“So, these are the two clubs really pushing to sign Desire Doue. Let’s see if some other club will try to join the race. So let’s keep it open until it’s done, because the player has not decided yet which club he wants to join.

“He’s speaking to both Bayern and Paris Saint-Germain at the moment. Different projects, different ideas, different vision of the managers.

“So they are taking their time on player’s side and player camp and player agent to decide all together.

“But for sure, the idea at the moment is to join one between Bayern and PSG. These two clubs are really pushing. And so they are the clear favourites to sign Desire Doue.”

SpursWeb Opinion

If Tottenham are not in talks and in the ballpark of spending close to £52million, which we all know is unlikely then this transfer is dead in the water.

Doue will certainly have had his head turned at the prospect of playing for the top club in his homeland or joining Vincent Kompany’s project in Munich where he would be guaranteed Champions League football year after year.
