Report: Championship club are lining up a ‘fresh bid’ to sign Spurs 23-year-old

Tottenham Hotspur are looking to sell a number of players this summer, and while the future of one academy graduate remains uncertain, one potential suitor is preparing to come in with a new offer.

Oliver Skipp set for a step down?

Oliver Skipp may have progressed from the academy to the first team at Spurs, but he might not be around for much longer as clubs begin to circle.

That’s according to a report from Planet Sport, who claim Leeds United are keen on acquiring the central midfielder to replace the outbound Glen Kamara this summer.

It is thought Leeds want to make a “fresh bid” for Skipp after receiving a fee of £8.4m for Kamara, which represented a “sizeable profit” for the Championship outfit.

Apparently, Skipp “was a part of those negotiations” that saw Archie Gray head in the other direction as Tottenham’s first signing of the summer, but Spurs were not “willing to consider an approach” at that time.

Leeds bagged Joe Rodon instead, but their manager, Daniel Farke, is thought to be keen to reunite with Skipp — a player he coached during a loan spell at Norwich.

It is believed Spurs would need “to secure a replacement” before they consider letting Skipp go.

Falling down the pecking order

Despite showing plenty of promise in his early career, Skipp was essentially the fifth-choice central midfielder under Ange Postecoglou last season.

He racked up just 861 minutes of action in 24 appearances last term (Transfermarkt), equating to an average of 35 minutes per game.

Spurs Web Opinion

I’m not sure Skipp would be all that keen on a drop to the Championship, and if he were to leave, I’m sure he could secure interest from Premier League clubs.

Whether Spurs actually want to let him go or not, given his homegrown status, is another matter entirely.
