FA Tipped To Test Eddie Howe If Gareth Southgate Goes

The Football Association are tipped to test the strength of Eddie Howe’s commitment towards Newcastle United if Gareth Southgate decides to step down as England manager, according to The Daily Telegraph.

 

There are question marks over Southgate’s future after England lost their second successive European Championship final on Sunday.

 

The 53-year-old has declined to comment on his future but there are suggestions that he could decide to step down.

 

 

The FA would prefer to hold on to Southgate, but they are looking at potential candidates who could replace him.

 

Howe is a top target though there are suggestions that the Newcastle boss would not be interested.

 

 

However, it has been claimed that the FA are likely prepared to test the waters with the Newcastle manager.

 

There has been an upheaval in the background at Newcastle with the manager losing key allies in Amanda Staveley and Dan Ashworth.

 

 

The FA would be keen to see whether Howe would be keener on an offer to become the England manager at the moment.
