Man Utd now want to agree deal for 'proven' Premier League star, could be signed for £10m - report

0 6

Manchester United are in the transfer market for a left-back this summer due to the unreliability of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.

Shaw made just 15 appearances last season amid regular injuries while Malacia was absent for the whole campaign with a knee issue.

The former has returned to training with England at Euro 2024, but manager Erik ten Hag may want more depth in the defensive role.

AS today claim that United have again shown interest in signing Sergio Reguilon, who spent the first half of last season with them on loan.

Tottenham Hotspur are prepared to sanction his summer sale and it is reported that the Spaniard’s future could be in the Premier League.

Aside from the Red Devils, West Ham United have also been credited with an interest in Reguilon, who was on loan at Brentford earlier this year.

United eyeing surprise reunion with Reguilon

Reguilon joined United on a temporary deal last summer. He fared well in his 12 appearances, but the club triggered a break clause in January.

The hierarchy did not feel the need to keep Reguilon, considering Shaw and Malacia were anticipated to return from their respective injuries.

However, the decision did not prove worthwhile as Shaw only made a handful number of appearances before being ruled out for the season.

Malacia did not feature in any game after suffering another setback in his rehabilitation.

Diogo Dalot impressed as a makeshift left-back during the season run-in, but Ten Hag may want to avoid the same situation from arising in future.

In our view, Reguilon could be tempted to rejoin the club. He is valued at £10 million by Transfermarkt, but could be signed for less with his contract expiring next summer.

The Spaniard was described as a ‘proven’ Premier League player by Brentford manager Thomas Frank. He would be a good fit for United, given his familiarity to the tactics.

The 27-year-old made a good impression without any pre-season games with United. He was able to adapt quickly and this could be a reason behind the fresh interest.
