Fabrizio Romano says Spurs are not in talks with 22-year-old despite reports

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Bologna are looking to sell rumoured Tottenham target Riccardo Calafiori to a club outside the Serie A, naming Arsenal and Chelsea as contenders for the centre-back’s signature – but Spurs are not in talks.

Tottenham have been linked with Calafiori

Since Italy’s shock exit from the Euros at the hands of Switzerland over the weekend, the speculation over Calafiori’s future has intensified.

The 22-year-old was one of the best centre-backs on show in Serie A last season and he backed those up with solid displays for the Azzurri in Germany.

Over the last few days, several outlets have named Spurs, Arsenal and Juventus as the leading contenders to land Calafiori, with some outlets suggesting that the Bianconeri might struggle to meet the asking price. (La Gazzetta dello Sport).

Arsenal and Chelsea are in talks about Calafiori

Romano has now taken to social media to reveal that Bologna do not intend on selling the centre-back to Juve or another Italian side.

The journalist makes no mention of Spurs, instead naming their London rivals, Arsenal and Chelsea as the ones who have made an approach for the versatile defender.

In fact, in a later tweet, Romano added that Arsenal have presented an offer to Calafiori while Chelsea are still sniffing around. The Journalist stated that no other club is in talks at the moment.

He tweeted: ‘Arsenal have presented long term proposal to Riccardo Calafiori, after interest revealed last week. Understand player is open to joining Arsenal if they can agree terms with Bologna. Chelsea are still there.

‘Arsenal and Chelsea, are the only two clubs in talks right now.’

Spurs Web Opinion

I would be surprised if Tottenham do not test the waters with an offer for Calafiori but the 22-year-old might not be particularly keen on the move, particularly after witnessing Radu Dragusin struggle for starts in N17 since his switch from Genoa.

It looks like Arsenal or Chelsea will win this particular race.
