Euro 2024 – Quarter-Final Preview

Spain and Germany go head-to-head in Stuttgart on Friday in the first of two blockbuster ties in the loaded top half of the draw, with both sides having won the Euros three times apiece.

The two sides are yet to lose at Euro 2024 and will have an excellent chance of winning the tournament if they emerge victorious from this tie.

Spain rattled off three straight wins during the group stage before coming from behind to secure a 4-1 victory over Georgia in the last-16.

They have been the most impressive team at the tournament up to this point but will not find it easy against the rejuvenated hosts.

After picking up seven points from their three group games, Germany produced a professional display to defeat Denmark 2-0 in the previous round.

They have drawn inspiration from playing on home soil and will be confident about their chances of progressing to the semi-finals.

The second quarter-final is another eye-catching match-up between two fancied teams as Portugal face France in Hamburg.

Portugal were taken to penalties by Slovenia in the last-16 and will need to step things up to have any chance of defeating a well-organised French team.

Les Bleus have kept three clean sheets on their way to the quarter-finals and are worthy favourites to book their place in the last four.

England and Switzerland feature in the third quarter-final in Dusseldorf on Saturday in a contest which will likely be a defensive battle of wills.

The Three Lions produced another lacklustre display against Slovakia in the previous round but somehow won the tie in extra-time.

Manager Gareth Southgate has received plenty of criticism about his lack of tactical acumen, and his luck may run out against Switzerland.

The Swiss were impressive during the group stage and followed up with a power-packed performance to defeat Italy in the last-16.

A similar display could be enough to overcome an England side that has failed miserably to find any cohesion throughout the tournament.

Judging by their performances in the previous round, the final last-eight fixture between the Netherlands and Turkey in Berlin has the potential to be a classic encounter.

The Dutch side were a little disappointing during the group phase but stepped things up with an impressive 3-0 win over Romania to progress to the quarter-finals.

Turkey continued their Euro 2024 journey with a thrilling 2-1 victory over Austria and will fancy their chances of upsetting the odds against the Netherlands.

They showed plenty of resilience against Austria and could cause plenty of problems if the Dutch don’t take the threat they pose seriously.
