Match Reports

Over 35s

We knew going into this fixture that it was going to be a stern test. Coach Kel decided to shake things up with a new formation the team had never seen before: the 4-3-2-1, or the Christmas Tree formation. This strategy worked wonders as we reduced the number of chances created by the strong Melrose outfit. The few opportunities that did come their way were either fluffed by their attackers or expertly denied by our defense and goalkeeper.

Despite our defensive stance, we remained a threat and managed to take a 1-0 lead into halftime after Milky squeezed one past their goalkeeper.

The second half, however, was a different story. Melrose found an early goal after the break and seemed to have figured out how to unlock our strong defensive setup. As our players lost shape and positioning, forgetting the system and structure, Melrose took advantage and ran away with the game, ultimately defeating us 6-1.

With a positive mindset, we’re taking the match as a draw, considering both teams won one half each!

How do you draw a game 3-3 after leading 3-0 at half time?
Come & watch the 45s play.
A great start to the match on a wet afternoon. We set 3 goals up for Foxy to finish off in the first half after some good football. The 2nd half had us making some basic errors with terrible on the ball decisions & our poor passing resulted in letting them take control of the game. Hopefully we are not too old to learn from these mistakes & are able to take something away from this.
