Man United to miss out on signing centre-back target due to UEFA rules

According to reports, Manchester United have been forced to withdraw their pursuit of Nice center-back Jean-Clair Todibo.

The France international has long interested the Red Devils, who were strong favorites to recruit him at the beginning of the 2023–2024 campaign.

Fabrizio Romano reports that INEOS, led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, is the cause of the issues that have put a stop to United’s advanced negotiations with the French club.

Both United and Nice, the Ligue 1 team owned by INEOS, the corporation founded by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, have qualified for the Europa League and are awaiting clarification on whether they will be permitted to participate in the competition the following season.

Due to this problem, UEFA has blocked any possible transfer between the two teams, making a deal highly unlikely given that they will both be playing in the upcoming Europa League season.

Romano gave an interesting update on the situation, saying that even if negotiations have progressed to an advanced stage, it is doubtful that the transfer would be revived.

Jean-Clair Todibo has attracted interest from Man United.

The deadline for both clubs to provide UEFA with proof that they adhere to the regulations was June 3rd.

They are currently awaiting the decision of an independent panel on the subject.

Man United are desperate for a new centre-back

Since joining Nice four years ago, Todibo has been an impressive player, drawing interest from a number of elite teams.

The Red Devils are looking to sign a new centre-back this summer after the departure of Raphael Varane following the expiry of his contract.

Man United will be active in the window this summer to sign new players in order to hand manager Erik ten Hag the resources to challenge for trophies next season.
