Report: Tottenham are interested in signing English centre-back this summer

According to The Daily Mail, Crystal Palace will not let Marc Guehi leave without a fight this summer as Tottenham and several other clubs circle over the centre-back.

Guehi has been one of the most consistent centre-backs in the Premier League over the last couple of years and the 23-year-old showed his class in England’s Euros opener against Serbia, helping the Three Lions keep a clean sheet and emerge victorious at Gelsenkirchen.

According to The Mail, the likes of Spurs, Manchester United and Liverpool are closely monitoring the centre-back’s situation and are considering a move.

It is pointed out that Guehi has just two years left on his deal at Selhurst Park and with Palace not wanting the defender to run into the final year of his contract, the aforementioned clubs are sensing an opportunity to sign him.

However, the report states that the Eagles are not prepared to let the former Chelsea man leave without a fight and are ready to offer him a new contract when he returns from the Euros.

The publication adds that Oliver Glasner’s men would not just be prepared to offer Guehi a pay rise but they may also tempt him to extend his contract by inserting a set buy-out clause.

Tottenham currently have Cristian Romero, Micky Van de Ven and Radu Dragusin at the club, so competition would be fierce for Guehi even if he did join Spurs.

I cannot see Tottenham paying over £50m on a centre-back this summer, given the three top options Ange now has in that position.

I also cannot see Guehi being too keen on a switch to North London over a club like Man Utd where he is much more likely to be a regular starter.
