Club president insists defender is not for sale this summer despite Spurs links
Alessandro Buongiorno is not available for transfer this summer, according to Torino president, Urbano Cairo. Spurs are one of a number of clubs interested in the defender, but they’ve been warned there is no price tag for the player as his club want to keep him.
Tottenham were linked with Buongiorno
Despite already signing Micky van de Ven last summer and Radu Dragusin in January, Spurs are reportedly looking to sign another centre-half this summer to complete a central defensive quartet for Ange Postecoglou.
According to Tuttosport (as relayed by Sport Witness), Tottenham are keen on Torino’s Alessandro Buongiorno, but they face competition from Chelsea, and various Italian sides like Inter Milan, Napoli, Juventus, and AC Milan.
In fact, new Napoli manager, Antonio Conte, has already told his club’s board to make Buongiorno his first signing this summer (CalcioMercato via InsideFutbol).
It has been suggested a fee of €40m (£34m) would be the price tag on Buongiorno’s head (Area Napoli). However, the latest on the matter may make that idea redundant.

Torino president, Urbano Cairo, has been speaking at the Football Week event, and was asked about how much it would take to sell Buongiorno this summer, and he made it very clear the player is not for sale.
“There is no price tag because he is not on the market. We are very happy that he is with us,” Cairo said. “We wish him all the best for a great European Championship with Italy and then we’ll see.”

Buongiorno is a top, top player, and he would probably even be above Radu Dragusin in our pecking order, but having four brilliant centre-backs like that could well cause issues.
I’m all for competition for places, but we would risk making at least one player very unhappy if we signed him.
