Over the last couple of days, a number of outlets have credited Madrid with an interest in Romero, with Estadio Deportivo now providing a comprehensive update on the pursuit.

It is revealed that the La Liga giants are keen to sign a top-class centre-back this summer due to the injury troubles of Eder Militao and David Alaba, and the possible departure of Nacho Fernandez.

While they had initially identified Lille star Leny Yoro as their top target, Paris Saint-Germain have now made ‘a dizzying offer’ for the Frenchman, making the pursuit difficult.

Madrid want to watch Romero at the Copa America

Los Blancos have reportedly turned their attention to Romero, having been impressed by his displays in the Premier League last season.

It is revealed that they will follow the centre-back closely during Copa America and should he deliver dominant displays in the tournament, Carlo Ancelotti’s men could decide to ‘bet on him’ this summer.

It is pointed out that Romero will not be cheap and that Daniel Levy will make any transfer negotiations incredibly difficult.

However, Madrid are said to be hoping that the Spurs vice-captain’s willingness to move to the Santiago Bernabeu could ‘facilitate talks’.

Romero is under contract until the summer of 2027 which gives Spurs plenty of power in ensuring that remains at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the foreseeable future.

We have been down this road a number of times before whether it be Luka Modric, Harry Kane or Gareth Bale, Tottenham need to start winning trophies and competing for big honours year after year and that sits with Daniel Levy.
