Report sheds light on Real Madrid’s interest in Romero and Tottenham’s price

According to a report in Ole (as relayed Sport Witness), Real Madrid’s advances for Cristian Romero were merely exploratory, with Los Blancos not desperate for a new centre-back at this time.

Real Madrid linked with a move for Cristian Romero

Spurs fans would have been concerned when it was reported earlier this week by ESPN Argentina (via Mundo Albiceleste) that Real Madrid held an interest in Romero.

In fact, the report claimed that the La Liga giants had already made an approach to Spurs and asked about the conditions to sign the centre-back.

Romero was arguably one of Tottenham’s best players last season, forging a formidable partnership with Micky Van de Ven in the heart of defence.

No concrete move yet from Real Madrid

Ole have now also stated that Romero is on the radar of the European champions and they have been in contact with Tottenham over a potential deal.

However, they point out that Real Madrid are not pushing for the transfer at the moment as they do not particularly need another central defender.

It is explained that Carlo Ancelotti’s men merely consulted the Premier League club about their vice-captain’s availability. Interestingly, the publication claims that Romero is valued at around €60m (£50.5m).

Ole’s suggestion that Romero is valued at £50m makes the report lose any credibility and suggests that this information is baseless.

With the Argentine having three years left on his deal, there is simply no way that Levy would entertain such a low offer for the centre-back.
