Report: How much Tottenham are expected to earn from pre-season tour of Japan

Tottenham Hotspur continue to capitalise on their connections and support in Asia, by organising a lucrative pre-season tour of Japan this summer — the first time the club has been there in almost 35 years.

In recent years, particularly since the development of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the Lilywhites have become one of the most commercially successful clubs in world football.

The revenue stream for Tottenham is now the eighth highest in the world (Deloitte), with Spurs the richest club in London now.

Credit where it’s due, Daniel Levy knows how to run a business. And, a massive part of the success at Spurs from an economic point of view stems from the club’s huge support base in Asia, namely South Korea, thanks to Heung-min Son‘s popularity.

Spurs to tour Japan in the summer

Last summer, Spurs conducted a pre-season tour of Son’s homeland, South Korea, with immense crowds turning out to show their support for the North Londoners.

Now, as per TBRFootball, Tottenham’s plans for the upcoming summer include a trip to Japan, rekindling a strong relationship with the nation that goes way back to 1971.

Spurs will play J1 League champions Vissel Kobe on July 27th in Tokyo’s Japan National Stadium. They will then connect with the Japan Spurs, Osaka Spurs and Kobe Spurs supporters’ clubs.

Tottenham last visited Japan in 1991, and this “landmark” arrangement for the next visit is expected to include open-air training sessions, participation in local charitable initiatives, and the delivery of a technical programme for local players and coaches.

Analysis suggests this tour could be worth £10m for Spurs, thanks to match fees, a portion of the ticket sales, and merchandising opportunities. There is also expected to be a short-term sponsor for the tour which will bring in a seven-figure sum.

Spurs Web Opinion

This sounds like a great opportunity for the players to connect with the fans who wouldn’t normally get a chance to see their idols up close, and it presents a brilliant source of fresh income for the club, too.
