Nick Montgomery wants his side to respond from the disappointment of missing out on the bottom six and end the season positively.

Saturday’s fixture against St Johnstone is Hibs’ first post-split fixture and one that Montgomery hopes is a platform to gain momentum from.

With five games to go this season, Hibs will be looking to end the season as strong as possible to take some elements of momentum into the 2024/25 campaign.

“It was a difficult few days after the Motherwell game and reflecting on the disappointment of missing out on the top six.

“When we spoke about that, it was looking across the season and in many games we were in winning positions but lost 12 points from winning positions. We did that against Motherwell and that condemned us to missing out on the top six.

“There was a lot of frustration, a lot of upset, and the feeling that we let the fans down and ourselves down.

“We have to move forward now and look at the next five games as an opportunity to finish the season strong.

“This week we’ve been preparing for St Johnstone and the mood has been good. We know we need to put in some good performances and get some results to finish the season on a high.”

St Johnstone are fighting at the bottom end of the cinch Premiership table looking to move away from the threat of a Relegation Play-Off position, and Montgomery is more than aware of how challenging Saturday’s game could be.

“They’re a team that are resilient and put a lot of men behind the ball. We played them a couple of weeks ago and that result affected our standing come the split.

“They’re fighting for their lives, and we have to go there to try and win the game. We have to have the right mindset.”
