Report: Centre-back reveals his move to Spurs collapsed in 2019 due to injury

Christian Luyindama has revealed that he had a chance to move to Tottenham Hotspur back in 2019 but the transfer fell through after he picked up an injury while on international duty.

Luyindama was a consistent performer for Galatasaray for many years but the centre-back has been without a club since parting ways with the Istanbul giants back in December of last year.

The DR Congo international has now revealed that not long after his switch from Standard Liege to the Turkish club in January 2019, he had a chance to make a big move to the Premier League.

The 30-year-old had made an impressive start to his time at Rams Park and he claimed that both Spurs and Aston Villa came knocking on the door with offers.

Tottenham wanted Christian Luyindama in 2019

Luyindama insisted that only the final details of the transfer were left to be ironed out but he then picked up a serious knee injury against Gambia, which scuppered the deal.

He told Fotospor (as relayed by Sport Witness): “At that time, I had many offers, including from Tottenham and Aston Villa.

“I had to play that match against Gambia and then go back to Istanbul to finalise the details of the transfer. Unfortunately, I got a knee injury and my transfer didn’t happen. I couldn’t realise my dreams.”

Sport at the highest level can be ruthless and one or two moments over a decade and a half career can have a huge impact on an athlete’s trajectory.

Perhaps if the move to Spurs or Villa had worked out for Luyindama and had he avoided those knee problems, he would be much more of a household name by now.
