Alasdair Gold provides update on Tottenham’s pursuit of Jota ahead of January
Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has become the latest journalist to talk up the chances of Spurs making a move for Jota in January.
Spurs Web has brought to you all the latest updates over the last few weeks regarding Tottenham’s alleged interest in Jota, with several outlets suggesting that the 24-year-old is one of the attackers that the Lilywhites are eyeing (90 min).
A couple of days ago, The Times even asserted that Tottenham are ready to ‘step up’ their interest in the Portuguese star after Ange Postecoglou gave the green light to sign the player.
Gold thinks Spurs will explore a loan move for Jota
Gold has now explained that signing a versatile attacker who can play across the front three is likely to be a priority for Postecoglou in January.
This is because of the injuries that Spurs have upfront and the fact that they will be without Son Heung-min during the Asian Cup, which runs from January 12 to February 10 in Qatar.
The journalist states that Jota fits the bill for Tottenham and adds that the North London side ‘will likely explore’ a loan move for the former Celtic man in January.
Spurs Web Opinion
The reason Jota would appeal to Spurs as an option is precisely because he could be available on loan. However, unless Al-Ittihad are willing to subsidise a portion of the winger’s salary, the Portuguese star might have to take a wage cut to make the move.
