Ian Wright believes it is more important than ever for Daniel Levy to back Ange Postecoglou in the January transfer window, warning the Tottenham chairman not to repeat the mistakes he made during Mauricio Pochettino’s time at the club.
Despite Tottenham’s impressive start to the season, a lot of Spurs fans were quite concerned about the lack of squad depth in some areas of the pitch.
As it turns out, those fears were not misplaced at all, with the Lilywhites struggling to cope without some of their key players against Wolves on Saturday.
Spurs need to sign Postecoglou players in January
Historically, Spurs have not tended to make big-money moves mid-season but Wright has now insisted that the club have to loosen their purse strings in January in order to give Postecoglou a chance of achieving something special this season.
The Arsenal legend said on The Kelly and Wrighty Show, “I think Levy this January more than any other time, and I know it’s very difficult to get really top-end players, he really does have to back Ange with some players.
“What he doesn’t want to get into is what he did with Poch, after the Champions League and them finishing second, he wanted to get some out and bring some in and he ended up moving on. Tottenham regressed, with Conte and then Mourinho. Ange is bringing them back, he needs to be backed.”

I expect Tottenham to sign a minimum of two players in January – a centre-back and a winger. The club will also need to sign a midfielder if Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg departs.
