West Ham make offer to former Man City star as fall-out ignites transfer talk

0 6

West Ham have made an approach to sign former Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko from Roma, according to reports.

It is no secret that West Ham are looking for a new striker this month after selling Sebastien Haller to Ajax. A number of names have been linked to replace him.

Few of those targets have Premier League experience, but the latest name to be suggested does. According to various reports in Italy, they are in the running for Dzeko.

The Bosnia-Herzegovina striker previously spent five years with Man City, winning the Premier League title twice. He has exactly 50 Premier League goals to his name from his time in England.

Since leaving City in 2015, he has become a vital player for Roma, where he is now their all-time leading non-Italian scorer. However, he could be coming to the end of his time in Italy.

Dzeko has 18 months left on his contract, but could be on the move before then. After falling out with Roma head coach Paulo Fonseca, he missed their last game and is currently training alone.

With that in mind, a transfer within the next week is possible. Dzeko would prefer to stay in Italy, where Juventus or Inter Milan could revive their interest, but if nothing materialises in Serie A, a return to the Premier League could be on the cards.

According to Calciomercato, West Ham are the only club to have come forward for Dzeko so far. They would be able to afford his €7.5m yearly salary, whereas other clubs are hesitant.

However, Gazzetta Dello Sport join Calciomercato in claiming that Dzeko is not convinced by the destination.

Even though he is nearly 35, he still wants to be playing for a top European club. West Ham do not seem to match his ambition at present.

Therefore, they may miss out – although the fact that they are the only club to have made an offer so far may give him something to think about.

Gazzetta Dello Sport claim that he also ruled out Wolves for similar reasons, but there have been unlikely links with Tottenham and a potential return to City.

Dzeko decision to impact Eriksen?

While his destination remains unclear, it seems Roma have accepted that Dzeko may leave by the end of the month. That could present an opportunity for Premier League clubs.

Alternatively, it could hinder them with other transfers. One solution suggested by Gazzetta is a swap deal with Inter that would see Christian Eriksen move to the Italian capital.

Eriksen has been linked with a return to the Premier League – perhaps even going back to Tottenham. However, a swap deal involving Dzeko would rule that out.

There is still hope for Premier League sides, though, as Inter are reportedly reluctant to accept that deal due to financial concerns.

That means the futures of both Dzeko and Eriksen will remain up for question.
