Prem rivals make Eriksen approach as Tottenham face ‘significant hurdles’

0 4

Leicester have joined the race to bring Christian Eriksen back to the Premier League, according to a report.

Eriksen has not enjoyed his stint with Inter Milan since joining them from Tottenham one year ago. It seems likely he will be on the move again before the end of the month.

Inter deem him surplus to requirements and there have been rumours of a return to Spurs. Reports in Italy claim that would be his number one preference.

However, Tottenham disagree with Inter over the formula of the deal and are not the only suitor. While those issues could yet be resolved, other clubs could try to snare him away.

For example, the Telegraph now claim Leicester are in the hunt and have made an approach. The Foxes are currently pushing for another high finish and Eriksen would add quality to get them over the line and reach their targets.

Leicester recently lost Dennis Praet to an injury that has put him on the sidelines for three months. Eriksen would provide the creative cover they need.

While he has lost his way since his move to Italy, the Denmark international remains a player who possesses great quality that would benefit most sides.

Leicester are now looking to take advantage of that. However, his £300,000-per-week wages would be a stumbling block.

Like Tottenham, Leicester would prefer to take Eriksen on loan for the rest of the season, rather than the permanent deal that Inter want.

If Inter were to sanction a loan for Eriksen, they would want his next club to cover his wages in full. After learning that, Leicester have stepped back.

Tottenham remain in the hunt and the report does not rule out them signing Eriksen. However, it is warned that they face “significant hurdles” – so that could alert other suitors.

Brendan Rodgers previously played down talk of a busy January for Leicester, but The Telegraph suggest this is a sign he is actively looking for reinforcements.

Leicester are currently pushing for a top four finish, which they narrowly missed out on last season. Should results go their way, they could even be looking higher than that.

Pledge made about Leicester ambitions

Leicester recently moved top of the table for a brief time as their strong form continued.

While they have since been overtaken, it was still a sign of how high they could aim this season – and their players know there is a chance to reach a big achievement.

For example, Wilfried Ndidi recently said they have a clear idea of where they want to be at the end of the season – but are not getting ahead of themselves yet.

“It’s very exciting and we feel very happy because it’s part of the season and there’s more games to come,” he said earlier this week.

“At this time, we just build confidence for the next game, we don’t think about the end of the season.

“We know what we want to achieve but it comes game after game. We try to focus on the next game.”
