Match preview – Coventry United (A)

0 6

Coventry United vs AFC Wulfrunians – 31.10.20, 3pm ko

On Saturday the Wulfs make the trip to the Butts Park Arena to face Coventry United who have had a decent start to the season that has been heavily disrupted by COVID 19.  Both sides will be looking to continue good recent form in what should be a very competitive match.

Form:

Coventry United – LWWLW

United will be looking to make it 4 wins out of their last 5, and should be full of confidence after a derby win away at Coventry Sphinx on Tuesday night, which put them ahead of AFC into 9th position. However, the league position does not do the away side’s early season form justice, as they have only played 7 games so far while other teams above them in the table have played 12/13 games.

AFC Wulfrunians – DDWDD

AFC have been draw specialists in the last few weeks, but overall have had a good October going unbeaten throughout the month. Last Saturday the Wulfs played out a 1-1 draw with Tividale. It was a scrappy affair that was decided by two penalties, one for either team. AFC will take plenty of spirit from the late equaliser and will look to carry this positive momentum into Saturday’s game.

One to watch:

Riley O’Sullivan – The forward has 7 goals in 6 starts so far for the hosts, and will be desperately trying to improve this tally on Saturday.

2019/20 season:

United were top of the Midland league Premier Division when the season was made null and void, giving them an extra boost of confidence heading into this campaign. The injustice felt by the club will also push them even more for success this time around. United were one of the favourites for promotion before the start of the season and will feel 3 points is necessary to aid their promotion push.

Summary:

After having to settle for a point last Saturday against Tividale, AFC will be looking to perform well against another very good side. A win could see the Wulfs jump up as many as 5 places in the table to 7th, in what is looking to be an extremely competitive league this year. It will be a huge task for manager Darren Goodall and his players but they will be doing everything they can in to claim a memorable victory.

With no other league games being played this Saturday due to FA Vase commitments, both teams will see this as a great opportunity to claim a vital 3 points and carry on the momentum built up over the last few weeks. It should be a very competitive encounter which has the possibility to be as exciting as this fixture was last year, in which United ran out 4-3 winners. Hopefully this time round the Wulfs can be on the positive end of the result and bring some points back home.

Unfortunately, due to current ground restrictions the game has to be played behind closed doors, please do not travel to the ground.

However, the Wulfs are back at home on the 7th November as we face Selston at the CKW, we would really appreciate your support.
