S2 vs T2: Gamethread

0

S2 put their perfect home record against T2 on the line.

On the weekend that the oldest iteration of Seattle soccer versus Portland soccer plays it 100th match the newest iteration plays its 13th. If the First Teams historical performance against their Portland counterpart (50-35-14) can be described as dominant than there isn’t a word in the English dictionary to describe what Seattle Sounders FC 2 have done against Portland Timbers FC 2. S2 have won 11 of the previous 12 meetings and lost just one. They never once failed to get all three points against T2 at Starfire and opened Cheney Stadium this year with a win against T2. Head Coach John Hutchinson has said that his predecessor, Ezra Hendrickson, likes to send him messages him reminding Hutchinson of Hendrickson’s excellent record against T2.

While history is good for banter and confidence, this isn’t the same bottom-feeding T2 side that S2 faced under Hendrickson. Since the departure of Caleb Porter the Timber’s USL side seems to have a more defined purpose and cohesion. They are off to a great start this year, currently 6th in the west and on double the points of S2. T2 don’t dominate their opponents but, as S2 saw in their first game against their rival, they can strike quick and thrive off of defensive mistakes. Unfortunately S2 are still prone to a few mistakes a game and occasionally drift to far up field. If they can keep their shape well and cover for each other when mistakes happen they have a good chance at coming away with another win against T2.

What is left of the Cascadia 2 Cup (officially there is not cup) can be decided today. With the failure of the Whitecaps USL side and a change in scheduling that sees T2 and S2 only face off three time this year S2 can seal up the cup with a win today.
