You’re spot on with your eloquent analysis here TQ, such ‘tortured’ individuals share much of their ‘emotional overflow’ with others who expressed their (often repressed) mental sensitivities through various artistic channels (eg. Van Gogh, Sylvia Plath, Virginia Woolf).
Unfortunately, I think there will always be a link between artistic brilliance and emotional susceptibility.
