Was definitely a red.

I don’t know where the commentary team get their information, but to speculate:

The ref didn’t see the touch from the defender and showed a red for being the last man. The assistants/VAR didn’t bother correcting it as it was a leg-breaker. Ultimately the correct decision was made but the wrong motive was given.
