World Cup Expansion to 48 Teams (Update: FIFA Council Agrees 2026 Slot Allocation)

So FIFA has decided to slip this proposal through the back door:

I dislike the idea of a 40-team World Cup as it would dilute the tournament, which I feel is perfect as of now. Also, once a team gets there, the proposed format looks like 8 groups...
