"Clean headroom" is what you pay the mega bucks for. Plus, if it's a HSS strat the chances are that, the bridge humbucker (bucker for short) is designed to overdrive the amp. Try the neck pickup (pup for short) and see how loud that will go. Is there master volume on the amp as well as gain?
