Sarina Joos established herself as the new top Italian figure skater during the 2023-24 season. The 17-year-old, who previously competed for Switzerland, made the switch to represent her mother’s home country of Italy. Half Swiss and half Italian, Joos expressed her happiness with this decision, and her performance results have confirmed her satisfaction.

Joos made a statement when she won the Challenger Series “Golden Spin of Zagreb” in December 2023. She then clinched the title of Italian Champion and qualified for major championships. At her first European Championships, she achieved an impressive sixth-place finish, and followed it up with seventh place at the Junior World Championships in Taipei, securing two spots for Italy in both events. In her debut at the Senior World Championships, she delivered solid performances and finished 20th.

This spring, we met the ambitious teenager in Zürich, where she trains and attends school, to get to know her better. Joos shared how she began figure skating as a child and why she loves the sport. Her younger sister, Noemi, is also a competitive skater, and Joos revealed that sharing the same passion has brought them closer together.

For the upcoming season, Joos has prepared two new programs with Edoardo De Bernardis and provided some insights into her new routines during our interview.

We also explored her aspirations on and off the ice, her deep connection to Italy, and what she particularly enjoys about representing the country. Joos described a typical day in her busy schedule and shared how she spends her rare free time.

With an eye on her home Olympics in 2026, Joos is rigorously preparing for her first full senior season for Italy in 2024-25.
