Frustration as Hillhead 1's head to the play-offs

It was an afternoon of hockey that summed up the second half of this 2016-2017 season for the HHC 1 men - a match that saw them fail to get beyond the low gears, certainly for the first 35 minutes anyway.
Clydesdale - who've not been short of their own frustrations this season with up and down performances - easily started the best team and dominated fairly long stretches of the first half with good ...possession hockey.
Indeed, they hit the backboard twice with one of the goals disallowed and the other standing.   A goal down, and in all honesty, Hillhead really looked like they could be out of it, as they struggled to get out of their own half let alone mount any kind of structured attacks in this crucial game.

The second half was, however, a different story with the HHC men coming out with equal determination but knowing that they simply had to do a lot better individually, and clearly as a team, to get themselves back into this tense combat.
Well, they did. It was a far better performance. It wasn't a great performance by any means, and under the circumstances (play-offs looming) possibly a bit frantic, but it ultimately got them a well deserved equaliser against a Clydesdale side that didn't let up the entire game under equally tense and frantic circumstances.

Hillhead could have gone on and won this game, spurning a number of chances. But to be fair, so could the men from the Clydesdale.

Hillhead Men's 1's will face Inverleith in the play-offs two weeks today at Glasgow Green.
