This Week’s Updates

0 3

We’re back to normal schedules this week and it’s great to be back!

We’ve scheduled a Pre-Season Elementary Schools, Middle School, and Beginner Event for the end of August. The event is called the 82nd Open.
Eligibility:
Y10 Events: Must be born between 2014-2017 (if the student happens to be born 2018, just sign up for this one)
Y12 Events: Must be born between 2012-2015

There are some students who’s birth year may overlap between either Y10 or Y12 (born 2014 or 2015). You can choose which event to participate in. Events are occuring at the same time, so you won’t be able to do both.

The Senior Beginner Foil is limited to fencers born 2011 or earlier AND meet one of the following criteria:
Have previously participated in 2 or less tournaments OR
Have started fencing January 2024 or later OR
Is no longer qualified to fence in Y12 (Born 2012-2015) events and has recently graduated to qualify for senior events (Born 2011 or earlier) this year.

Register for 82nd Open here: https://askf.red/j7aip
Event fee is $20

Olympic Fencing
If you’ve been watching fencing at the Summer Olympics, it was great to see an all USA final in the Women’s Individual Foil, Lee Kiefer taking gold again! Nick Itkin won bronze in the Men’s Individual Foil. We got a chance to talk to Nick Itkin during the COVID-19 lockdown, you can hear that interview here: https://allamericanfencing.com/on-strip-at-home-audio-resilience-series-nick-itkin-interview/

You can next see the Women’s Foil Team on August 1, and the Men’s Foil Team on August 4. You can see the full schedule of events including the other weapons here: https://olympics.com/en/paris-2024/sports/fencing We’ve been watching on the Peacock TV App.

Lastly, other events in August.
Since we’re not hosting a season starter for our experienced fencers, we are planning on attending the Forge Fencing Event on August 24-25. There are several events for several age groups that weekend. If you’re a regular competitor, I would consider attending. I am planning to be there on Tuesday, August 25, 2024. Event information here:

Don’t Forget!!
IMPORTANT: Sign Up or Renew Your USA Fencing Membership!
