May Updates

0 12

First thing, pick up a copy of this week’s Up and Coming Weekly! They featured our last tournament and have quite a number of pictures! Here is the online announcement, but it only has one picture. https://www.upandcomingweekly.com/local-news-briefs/7756-fayetteville-fencers-sweep-gold-medals-in-multi-club-tournament

NO CLASS ON WEDNESDAY, MAY 26, 2021!
Quite a number of our fencers are graduating this year, and one of them is my son! You probably know him, Gabriel Guevarra. He’s graduating that day.

Any teens/adults that attend the Wednesday class are welcome to come either Tuesday (7-8PM) or Thursday (7PM) of that week.

TOURNAMENT
With a lot of things going on in May, we probably won’t have an opportunity to run a tournament, so I’m looking at possibly a tournament on June 26. I’m planning to try to make it a sanctioned event, meaning there will be a possibility of earning a rating. I’m not solid on the June 26 date yet, but try to keep it open. If you’re itching for a tournament in May, check out askfred.net to see what’s available.

TEAM JACKETS!
So we’re starting to do tournaments again, so we have new team jacket designs this year! You may have seen some of our other fencers wearing their team jackets. They’re stylish, and we usually wear them during away events. In the past years, I only ordered them during one time of the year, but with CCE Headgear Plus in Fayetteville, you can order them year round! So you don’t have to wait until I do bulk order anymore! And they’re cheaper than they were in previous years! I’m wearing a large, and it’s slightly big, I could probably wear a medium too. Just depending on what I’m wearing under it. Check it out at: https://www.cceheadgearplus.com/fencing

LOOKING TO PURCHASE EXTRA GEAR?
Since there’s quite a few people that have started getting their own gear, or even if you already have your own kits, consider getting a spare practice blade. They are only $17 and I have all the other pieces you need to build a weapon, no charge for the pieces, you just need the blade. ???? The blades we use in class are: https://www.absolutefencinggear.com/shopping/product_info.php/products_id/180/cPath/24_26 (#5 blades for teens/adults, #2 blades for 12 and under)

Lastly, for teens and adults, if you want your own electric foil to use for class and competition, this is the one we use in class: https://www.absolutefencinggear.com/shopping/product_info.php/products_id/184/cPath/24
Options we recommend that we use in class (so if something needs to be fixed, we have the same parts): German Point. #5 blade. It doesn’t matter what type of grip, but most of you use Viscontis. Make sure you select the correct hand. Standard AF Aluminum guard. AF Plastic pad. Foil Socket: AF Bayonet (IMPORTANT!)
